We are at the threshold of an explosion in the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of migraine, and with the help of MRF, more answers will soon be found.

Combined Federal
Campaign Giving # 33387

The Migraine Research Foundation is dedicated to ending the debilitating pain of migraine. We fund innovative research to further the understanding of the causes and mechanisms of migraine, to develop improved treatments for sufferers, and to find the cure.

Among the programs we fund are:
– annual research grants
– a special award to encourage young investigators to enter the field of migraine research
For Our Children initiatives to combat childhood migraine.

All our operating costs are underwritten–so every dollar raised goes directly to migraine research.

Be part of the solution: Invest in the cure.

The New York Times published a letter from MRF President about Michele Bachmann and migraines.

To the Editor:
Re: Me, Michele and Our Migraines,” by Judith Warner (Op-Ed,  July 22):

Since Representative Michele Bachmann was revealed  as a migraine sufferer, there has been a maelstrom of misinformation, invidious sex discrimination and careful disclaimers about not blaming the victim. But that’s exactly what’s happening.

Migraine, a neurological disease, afflicts about 1 in 10 Americans. Migraine attacks and their aftermath can be brutally severe and debilitating. Ms. Warner implies that people can choose to control their suffering. For the millions who suffer without relief, this is simply not the case.

Migraine remains poorly understood, frequently undiagnosed and often mistreated. We still don’t know what causes migraine or why treatments work only on some people in some situations. Sufferers often endure a lengthy process of trial and error to discover an effective treatment — if they’re lucky. Once one is found, it may not alleviate every attack, and it may prove ineffective over time.

It is only by committing necessary resources to unlocking migraines’ mysteries that sufferers will have the luxury of choosing to control their suffering. We must invest in research so that effective treatments can be found for all 36 million American sufferers.
