Haturday for Heads
Katie was assigned a group project at school to organize an event for a charity of the group’s choice. She was determined that MRF should be the charity her group chose. She gathered facts about the prevalence and disabling effects of migraine and the lack of good treatments or a cure, and presented them to her group. They were quickly convinced that MRF was the right choice for their project.
Not only did the group throw a successful fundraising event called Haturday for Heads, with a silly hat contest, a silent auction, and raffle prizes, but Katie went above and beyond and founded Migraine IDAHO, a support group for migraine sufferers in her state–a state that only has ONE certified headache specialist for its 160,000 migraine sufferers.
Katie didn’t stop there! Even though her class ended, she continues to run Migraine Idaho and in 2016 threw a second Haturday for Heads event–and this time it was nationwide!

This year, Katie reached out to the migraine community requesting people submit hat designs illustrating what migraine awareness means to them. She took votes on the top designs, and the winning graphic was printed on hats.
Sufferers around the country purchased hats, with all proceeds going to MRF. On April 23rd, everyone took pictures of themselves in the hats and posted them all over social media using the hashtag #HaturdayForHeads2016 to raise awareness throughout the country. That same day, Migraine Idaho also put on their second local event at the BBQ4Life restaurant in Boise, Idaho.
Many people got in on the actionall over the Internet, including the staff at the MRF HQ. The Idaho event was a blast and Katie was able to connect more people to her support group.
We’re so happy Katie founded Haturday for Heads and Migraine Idaho, and it sounds like the migraine community agrees: read Katie’s interviews on Migraine.com, Migraine Again, My Migraine Life, and The Daily Headache!
