She raised $13,000 by sailing alone across the Long Island Sound—with a migraine
MRF Ambassador Daisy is a 14-year-old girl with a passion for sailing who suffers from chronic migraine.
Despite her struggles with daily headaches, Daisy was determined to raise as much money for migraine research as she could.
She began with a classic lemonade stand. Next, she took a booth at her local fair where she hosted a migraine trivia game to raise awareness. Then, she used her love of sailing to plan a sailing regatta, selling tickets for donations. Finally, Daisy finished her fundraising by sailing by herself across Long Island Sound, asking for donations to support her!

Daisy sailed for migraine research!
I have sailed across the sound! It took a loooong time because there wasn’t a lot of wind, but I was encouraged as I sailed by the deserving cause I did it for. If you know about sailing, you might be interested to know that I sailed a spinnaker by myself! The actual sailing was a lot easier than I thought it would be, because even though I was in a larger boat than I’m used to, eighteen feet long, the wind wasn’t very strong. I was also very careful to get plenty of sleep the night before and drink a lot of water before I sailed, so although my head hurt a little, I didn’t get a full blown migraine.
I wrote many letters and groups and people around the internet wrote about my campaign and shared it on social media. I’m overwhelmed by all the support I have been given! In all, I have raised exactly $13,000. It’s kind of crazy. When I started this, I had no idea that so many people would donate and spread the word of my campaign.
We’re so grateful for Daisy’s efforts, and the money she raised will have an impact on the number of studies we can fund this year. To read more, check out Daisy’s website, and the articles written about her in both The Daily Migraine and The Daily Headache!
