Thomas E. Heftler Migraine Research Award

The American Headache Society® and the Migraine Research Foundation are pleased to announce that Emily Bates, PhD, has been awarded the 2011 Thomas E. Heftler Migraine Research Award for her proposal, “Finding the Molecular Mechanism of Casein Kinase 1δ  Mediated Migraine.”

Dr. Bates is the third recipient of the Heftler award, which was created and funded by the Migraine Research Foundation in memory of Mr. Heftler who was a founding member of the MRF Board of Directors.  The $10,000 award recognizes the most innovative research proposal in migraine by a neurology resident or headache medicine fellow in an accredited U.S. program.

Dr. Bates will conduct her research at Brigham Young University in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.  She received her PhD in Genetics from Harvard University.

The Migraine Research Foundation is the only organization whose sole purpose is to raise funds for innovative scientific research to further the understanding of the causes and mechanisms of migraine, to develop improvements in treatment, and to find the cure.

The American Headache Society® is a professional organization comprised of physicians and other health care professionals dedicated to improving the care and lives of headache sufferers.  AHS will administer the award and provide a forum for presenting the research results at the AHS Annual Scientific Meeting.
